1. Russia Uses Post at U.N. to Flip Ukraine Narrative


A Russia enmeshed in the biggest conflict in Europe since World War II dispatched its foreign minister to the United Nations Security Council on Monday to extol the virtues of peace and diplomacy. But Western diplomats accused Moscow of hypocrisy. The spectacle occurred as Russia nears the end of its one-month presidency of the Security Council. Intent on using the platform to full advantage, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov led a session described as focused on the maintenance of the U.N. charter, international rules and multilateralism. But the gathering also offered Russia a chance to try to flip the narrative of its invasion of Ukraine, casting the West as the aggressor.

2. German Magazine Editor Fired Over Fake Michael Schumacher Interview

 
The publisher of a German magazine that ran what it described as a “world sensation” interview with retired Formula One driver Michael Schumacher, but used responses written by artificial intelligence, has fired the magazine’s editor and apologized to Schumacher’s family. Schumacher, 54, retreated from public life after he suffered a brain injury in a skiing accident nearly a decade ago. The front cover of the April 15 issue of the celebrity magazine Die Aktuelle promoted the interview with Schumacher as his first since the accident. The article explained that all the quotations attributed to Schumacher had been generated by AI.

3. Miller High Life Crushed by Fist of Champagne Police


In America, the slogan “the Champagne of Beers” that decorates cans of Miller High Life is rarely taken literally, but European regulators took it at face value last week, seizing and destroying thousands of cans that were deemed counterfeit Champagne and thus “illicit goods.” Belgian authorities and the French committee for the protection of Champagne ordered that 2,352 cans of the beer — intercepted after they entered the port of Antwerp, in Belgium’s north — be emptied and crushed. Molson Coors said in a statement that it respected local restrictions regarding the word Champagne, “but we remain proud of Miller High Life, its nickname and its Milwaukee, Wisconsin, provenance.”
